At Roris Solutions we strive to operate in an honest and responsible way, working to the highest professional standards. We work with a variety of clients with very different ecological needs. Nevertheless, our approach is consistent: we are responsible for providing our clients with advice that is factual and transparent regardless of the implications this may have. 

We work collaboratively with our clients and their delivery partners to ensure the integrity of the overall design or solution and to resolve complex technical issues. We seek to develop successful working relationships by ensuring effective communication of progress and changes, and the resolution of issues. 

We are innovative and do not simply accept best practice guidelines, believing it is our duty to drive improvement and evolution at every opportunity. Through direct experience we have developed a great understanding of industry related conservation conflicts and we have a sound platform for devising pragmatic solutions that are tailored and proportionate to the needs of the project whilst promoting biodiversity enhancement. 

We understand that ecological problems can be daunting and choosing the right consultant to navigate or support the development of a suitable solution is a big decision, so we thought we’d let you know a little bit about what we do.

We are able to provide a large number of ecology services including:

• The production of Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA’s) and species-specific Preliminary Assessments (such as preliminary roost assessments) – we have vast experience providing this service from small scale residential developments to very large Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP). 
• Undertaking specialist habitat and species surveys for a range of species including NVC, Hedgerow, habitat condition and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, great crested newts, reptiles, bats, water vole, otter and badger.
• Impact assessments as standalone Ecological Impact Assessment or writing the biodiversity chapter of an Environmental Statement. Again, we have vast experience here with a range of projects from various sectors including rail, highways, buildings and energy. 
• BREEAM assessments for Land Use and Ecology. 
• Protected species licencing for great crested newts and badger. 
• Site ecological support and ecological clerk of works roles.
• Providing expert witness services at Public Inquiry and to large-scale (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects – NSIP) at the Examination Phase, particularly on the topic of great crested newt.
• We also work with other ecological consultancies to provide training, survey support, manage and/or lead project teams in data collection, collation and critical interpretation and remote/desk-based ecology support with tenders, reporting (writing, reviews, and proof-editing), derogation licences and data-analysis. 

Finally, we have near two decades of experience of working on railway projects and can provide Personal Track Safety (PTS) certified ecologist to support your project’s needs.  

 Neil has worked as a professional ecologist for over fifteen years, he is a Chartered Ecologist and a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (MCIEEM). In previous roles he has worked for multinational companies at Technical Director level and as a Team Leader. He has developed considerable experience with development-related ecological, environmental and sustainability work and is fully conversant with current wildlife legislation, planning law and best practice guidelines; devising pragmatic solutions to ecological issues that fit to each site and its locality.

He has undertaken numerous ecology surveys in both the UK and abroad for a range of habitats and species and has managed a variety of projects and budgets (across a broad range of sectors from small residential developments to extensive NSIP’s) from conception through to completion. He has a strong proven track record of delivery, competently offering advice at all stages of a project’s evolution, from its inception through to post construction monitoring. 

His main expertise and interest lie within herpetology (and particularly great crested newt ecology which was the subject of his PhD); co-ordinating occupancy and population studies and developing and implementing mitigation strategies. He has vast experience with EPSLs and has engineered the completion of many small to large scale translocation schemes for great crested newts. He is particularly interested in Defra's EPS polices and the district licence roll-out, welcoming the recent shift in legislation from the individual to the population. He has also held development licences for badger and has a survey licence for bats.
